“Salvaging Ghana’s Film Heritage”

In early 2010, a group of individuals with an interest in preserving Ghana’s audiovisual heritage came together to form an advocacy group, with the objective of: identifying and assessing the state of Ghana’s film heritage, examining the existing maintenance culture, and establishing a system of storage and preservation for generations to come. Members of the recently formed Ghanaian Film Archival Heritage Committee will be present speak about why the group was formed, and its immediate and long-term goals. Short archival films made by Ghanaians or about Ghana will be screened to highlight the importance of this heritage, the urgent need for preservation, and what can be done to save the collections.

Moderated by Ishumael Zinyengere, Audio-Visual Archivist for the International Criminal Tribunal of Rwanda and member of the Audiovisual Technical Committee of the Eastern and Southern Africa Regional Branch of the International Council on Archives.
